Grow Lightly News

Grow Lightly is working hard to make sure we can still get our fresh produce to you all.

Many of our lovely volunteers who look after you in our shop fall into the ‘at risk’ category so we are asking them to stay safely at home. There is plenty of produce for all, but with fewer people to help we do need to change how we operate:

The shop on Commercial St will now only be open on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 10 – 4pm and Saturday 9am-1pm as usual.

Vegie bag delivery will continue as usual, but be mindful to get your order in early as demand has increased significantly of late.

For all our bulk order customers, it’s business as usual.
We welcome your feedback, will review this process week by week and thank you for your patience as we work to find our ‘new normal’.

Stay safe and healthy all.

Growing Gourmet Mushrooms

Did you know that Shane uses unwanted byproducts to grow gourmet mushrooms? They are fresh, tasty and grown to perfection. Shane grows King Oysters, Blue Sashimi Oyster, Pearl Oyster, Elm Grey and Tan Oyster Mushrooms and there are medicinal mushrooms coming soon including Wood Ear, Australian Lions Mane, Australian Reishi and Turkey Tale. And now you can learn how to do this too! Get your tickets soon as places are limited!

Join Shane from Natura Mushrooms as he teaches you how to grow gourmet mushrooms at home using easy source materials and low tech methods.

You will receive instructions and watch demonstrations on how to grow your own grain spawn using non-sterile techniques.

Make your own oyster mushroom bag using easy source substrates found in supermarkets and stock feed stores. Shane will also explain how to vary the technique to grow shittake, king oysters, lion’s mane and reishi mushrooms.

Australian flower workshop and tour

Gwen Sanders’ stunning flowers light up the Grow Lightly Green Grocer and Grow Lightly’s market stalls. On Sunday 27 October Gwen will run two workshops at the property she and Peter manage together at Bena.

What are some of the best Australian natives to grow for cutting? What do the flowers look like? What growing conditions do they prefer? When do they flower? What must be considered when picking native flowers for bunches? How do you prepare flowers for bunching? How can you propagate your own? What’s the best propagating mix to use for Australian natives?

Find out the answers to these questions and more; revel in a guided walk around Gwen and Peter’s three acres of Australian garden; explore Gwen’s glasshouse and propagation systems;  and enjoy afternoon tea and a chat in glorious South Gippsland surroundings.

Book on Eventbrite for one of these times:

·         1pm – 3.30pm

·         2.30pm – 5pm

Limit of 12 per session. Cost $25.
